AI IMPACT · TRANSLATION AND WRITING

Will AI replace translation and writing jobs?

These are heavily hit jobs: AI translates and writes correct texts fast.

But meaning, the right tone and ownership of the published text stay human, and expert review becomes a craft of its own.

Where to start

YOUR FIRST TRY, THIS WEEK

  1. 1Have an AI translate 500 words of a text you have already translated yourself.
  2. 2Compare line by line and classify the gaps: meaning, tone, terminology.
  3. 3You now have your post-editing grid, and concrete proof of what your work adds.

TO HIGHLIGHT IN AN INTERVIEW

Present post-editing as a skill: your method, your standards, and what you refuse to let through.

Three things to know about this job

Correct, yes. Edit, no.

For specialists surveyed by Stanford, AI could already do most text correction on its own. Conversely, editing (choosing, building and defending a text) is the only occupation, out of 104 studied, where the people concerned want a human to stay essential.

What stays human in this job

Sense of nuance

Knowing what a word really says, in a language and a culture.

2

Verification

Publishing nothing that is not accurate.

3

Voice

Writing a text people want to read.

Frequently asked questions

What is post-editing?

It is reviewing and correcting a text translated by a machine. It is a skill in its own right, to put forward if you practise it.

Does AI write as well as a person?

It writes correct texts fast, but often flat and sometimes wrong. A text that must persuade, move or commit a company still needs a human pen and review.

Is machine translation reliable for a sensitive text?

Not without human review. On a contract, a medical notice or a technical document, a meaning error can have serious consequences: that is where your expertise counts most.

YOUR KIT, WRITTEN FOR YOUR ROLE

You make words say what they must say.
Your kit does the same for your path.

In a job heavily hit by AI, it is no longer enough to say "I translate" or "I write". You need to show what your work adds that a machine does not. Your kit starts from your languages, domains, clients and answers to put that precisely, and helps you present post-editing as an expertise.

Resume

Your languages, specialty domains and volumes, with what your review prevented.

LinkedIn

A headline that states your language pairs and domains, with the keywords clients and agencies search for.

Introduction

Three minutes to explain what you add that machine translation does not.

Interview

Questions on quality, deadlines, confidentiality and how you work with machine translation.
